Projects with elevated floor challenges in an environment where steel is the framing solution use Hambro as their edge for a composite joist that provides shallow depth and more head room and good fire ratings.

Concrete/steel T-beams run in one direction, and an integrated continuous slab in the other. During the concrete pour and cure, the bottom chord (Fy 50,000 psi min.or Fy 350 Mpa min.) act as a tension member and continues to serve as this member during the service life of the floor.

The web system tying top and bottom chords together consists of bent rods (Fy 44,000 psi min. or 300 Mpa min.) and resists vertical shear in a conventional truss manner. The patented 13-gauge top chord (Fy 50,000 psi min. or 350 Mpa min.) acts as a compression member during the non-composite stage.

When the composite is being formed, the top chord is embedded in the concrete and functions as a continuous shear connector. The concrete slab is reinforced with welded wire mesh. The top chord develops negative moment capacity in the concrete slab, which performs as a continuous one-way reinforced slab. At the same time, it serves as a high chair.
